This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and outcomes of dermatophytosis in ferrets:
Cause – Microsporum canis or Trichophyton mentagraphytes.
Signs – alopecia, broken hairs, erythema, scaling, crusting.
Diagnosis – microscopic examination, hair pluck, trichogram, fungal culture.
Treatment – miconazole, terbinafine, clotrimazole, enilconazole; oral griseofulvin in severe cases.
Prognosis – good.
