This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and outcomes of arthritis/osteoarthritis in guinea pigs, including:
Cause – may be multi-factorial: in feet it may be secondary to pododermatitis, or chronic vitamin C deficiency.
Signs – lameness, reluctance to move, pain on joint manipulation, swelling of the joints, crepitus upon joint flexion/extension, bruxism, dental disease, anorexia.
Diagnosis – radiographs, CT scans.
Treatment – palliative.
Prognosis – slowly progressive.
