Develop your knowledge and understanding of pyoderma in rabbits. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Common skin conditions course bundle.

This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and outcomes of pyoderma in rabbits, including:
Cause – Staphylococcus aureus, Psudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella multocida and Fusobacterium necrophorum.
Signs – papules, pustules, bacterial infection or dermal and subcuticular tissues, alopecia, swelling, erythema, ulceration, abscessation and necrosis.
Diagnosis: history, clinical signs, microscopy, bacterial culture, histopathology.
Treatment – daily cleaning with an antiseptic solution, topical fusidic acid, systemic antibiotics, NSAIDs
Prognosis – good if condition is not severe and the predisposing factors can be managed or treated. Recurrence common if underlying cause is not identified and effectively managed.
