Chelonian Haematology (60 Minutes of CPD/CE)

Haematology is commonly used as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for the assessment of the health status of wild and captive chelonians. However, haematology in turtles and tortoises is still not as developed as mammalian or avian haematology, and great variability and subjectivity is expected when obtaining and analysing blood results. This webinar will review most aspects of chelonian haematology, including venipuncture sites, sample handling, sources of variability, cell identification and changes with disease. The aim is to provide appropriate tools for the veterinarian and for the clinical pathologist to decide what kind of information can and cannot be obtained from chelonian haematology.

Reptile Anaesthesia and Analgesia (60 Minutes of CPD/CE)

This CPD will review anaesthesia in reptiles, including tortoises, snakes, lizards and crocodiles. We will start with a good anatomical and physiological review, followed by the description step-by-step of the procedure to safely and effectively anaesthetise any species of reptile. Ways to administer drugs, monitor anaesthesia and respond to emergencies will also be discussed. The CPD will be illustrated with 75 pictures and 5 videos to facilitate comprehension of the methodology. Doses and ranges will be provided for all drugs and reference values. During the last minutes we will also review the developing research topic of analgesia in reptiles.

Anatomy and Physiology of Reptiles (60 Minutes of CE/CPD)

Anatomy and physiology are the basis for the practise of a high-standard medicine and surgery. The different group of reptiles (mainly chelonians, snakes, lizards and crocodiles) have unique and differentiated anatomical and physiological characteristics that the clinician should be aware of.
